Transformation of an Older Industrial Area into a New Residential Neighborhood
Situated between Marka and Bogstadvannet, right at the municipal border of Oslo, the 617-decare area is particularly well-suited for development as a new, environmentally friendly residential neighborhood. Existing terrain, heritage-rich cultural environments, established hiking trails, and sunlight conditions—along with green structures and main roads—serve as key structuring elements in the plan.
Site adaptation is essential to creating a strong connection to the landscape and local character while ensuring the preservation of valuable qualities in the area. The master plan provides an overarching framework for Fossum, introducing new infrastructure, strengthening local connections, and defining zones for diverse uses. Additionally, the plan accommodates social infrastructure, including schools, kindergartens, a local center, a residential and care facility, an expansion of existing sports facilities, and the preservation of green and natural areas. The development is designed to integrate existing qualities and values within the site while ensuring access to public open spaces, hiking trails, and pedestrian and bicycle pathways. The plan allows for up to 2,000 new homes.
