Vika Atrium has been transformed into a more open and welcoming workplace and meeting destination in the heart of Oslo. Through a comprehensive upgrade of the building’s shared spaces and public-facing functions, the project brings new life to the property, strengthening the relationship between work, social interaction and everyday use.
The redevelopment is rooted in how the building is used on a daily basis, with an emphasis on intuitive wayfinding, clear connections and well-functioning communal areas. By transforming existing spaces, new conference and meeting facilities, restaurant and cafeteria areas, lounges and back-of-house functions have been introduced.
Movement through the building is guided towards the atrium reception, which has been given a renewed identity and designed as the building’s natural gathering point. At the same time, existing qualities such as staircases and lifts have been retained and carefully integrated into the new design.
The project demonstrates how transformation can extend the lifespan of existing buildings. By building upon what is already there and prioritising robust, long-lasting solutions, Vika Atrium has been adapted to meet changing needs while respecting the building’s structure and character. Sustainability has been a key focus throughout the redevelopment, and the project is certified BREEAM-NOR In-Use “Very Good.”
Targeted façade interventions and new entrance areas further open the building towards its surroundings, strengthening the connection between Vika Atrium and the urban life beyond its walls.
