Development and Preservation of the Cultural Quarter
The block is located in close proximity to the cultural and educational axis along the Akerselva Environmental Park, and consists of older industrial buildings of significant cultural and historical interest. The purpose of the plan is to preserve and continue the diversity of functions and the variation in the existing built environment, as well as to secure spaces for art production and other creative activities. New buildings are planned to serve as meeting places and venues for the dissemination of art and culture, and to improve accessibility to the block with stronger connections to adjacent areas. The distinct character of the block, based on its historical identity as a brewery quarter, will be refined, and the heritage values associated with the historic brewery environment—both architectural and production-related—will be safeguarded.
