The purpose of the project is to coordinate the development of two adjacent buildings with additions of two floors each. The new use will be as it is today: office, retail, and dining. The changes raise questions about how to address the preservation values in the area.
To achieve new use and activity in the area, it is necessary to rethink preservation values and how they should be brought into the future in an area in need of revitalization and innovation. New construction and preservation are not considered separate disciplines, and these aspects can interact without compromising preservation values. The proposed plan represents a method for approaching the further development of historically significant buildings in the inner city. This is a robust urban repair strategy.
